Madison Cawthorn just lost my and my family’s vote. As someone who usually votes Republican, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt concerning the bad choices he has made and the subsequent bad press. However, after seeing his full page ad in the Asheville Citizen-Times, I have decided to vote for his opponent, Moe Davis, a definitely more experienced and mature candidate to better represent me in Congress.
I found the ad to be an insult to my intelligence and knowledge of political issues. How can any reasonable person confiscate our guns, raise taxes, defund the police (which is a local issue), bring about socialized medicine with rationing (I happen to appreciate my Medicare and Social Security) and more government control (of what)? If Madison approved the ad that lies, misinforms and misleads us with fear tactics to get our vote, then he isn’t ready for prime time.
We already have to deal with enough misinformation, lies and conspiracies from the social media, and I resent having to view an ad appealing to voters’ fears and insecurities to get votes.
If he is the future of the Republican Party, he has a lot of maturing to do before gaining my support.
